El invierno ha sido una decepción para su familia real IceWing durante toda su vida. Cuando su hermana, Icicle, huye de Jade Mountain Academy, huyendo de terribles crímenes y posiblemente planeando cometer más, Winter sabe que ambos necesitan una segunda oportunidad para hacer las cosas bien, si tan solo él puede encontrarla.

Winter has been a disappointment to her IceWing royal family for her entire life. When her sister, Icicle, runs away from Jade Mountain Academy, running from terrible crimes and possibly planning more, Winter knows they both need a second chance to make things right, if only he can find it.
Winter's new claw companions, Moon, Qibli, and Kinkajou, won't let him make this perilous journey alone. They don't seem to understand that IceWings, the most superior of all dragon tribes, can solve their own problems. When the search for her leads the dragonets right into the fierce clutches of Queen Scarlet, Winter is grateful for some help. But even the bravest dragons cannot follow him to the Ice Kingdom, where she will have to face the greatest threat of all: her own family.
