He knows that the Party's official world picture is fluid fiction. He knows that the Party controls people by feeding them lies and narrowing their imaginations through a process of bewildering and brutalization that alienates each individual from his fellow men and deprives him of all liberating human pursuits, from reasoned inquiry to sexual passion. Drawn into a forbidden love affair, Winston finds the courage to join a secret revolutionary organization called The Brotherhood, dedicated to the destruction of the Party. Along with his beloved Julia, he risks his life in mortal combat against the powers that be.
